New Versatile Milling Cutters for Shouldering and Fast Feed Applications


Highlights
ISCAR is introducing the HELI4MILL - new indexable and versatile small diameter milling cutters that can carry singlesided square and fast feed inserts.


The new HELI4MILL cutters and inserts are designed to provide an economical option for a wide range of roughing and finishing operations.

The cutters can carry inserts of different shapes in the same pocket. The simple and user-friendly system allows the tool to be used for milling square shoulders and slots, or for productive fast feed rough machining.

HELI4MILL cutters can successfully replace solid carbide endmills. They facilitate application flexibility and reduce stock and procurement costs.

HELI4MILL tools have been designed for the manufacturing of small-size and miniature parts, small dies and molds, and medical components. Their compact size makes the new cutters ideally suited for turn-milling.

HELI4MILL cutters are available in the following configurations:

Endmills in the .375 - .750 inch diameter range

E90SO…MM-04
Endmills with MULTI-MASTER threaded adaptation in the .375 - .750 inch diameter range

Cutter Features
  • Each cutter can carry single-sided square and fast feed milling inserts

SOMT 040204PNTR Insert
A general-use insert with 4 helical cutting edges for milling square shoulders.

  • Positive axial rake to reduce cutting forces

SOCT 040204PNR Insert Square insert intended mainly for milling various high-temperature alloys.
Its cutting geometry ensures high machining accuracy and high surface finish.
The insert enables smooth machining, exerting low cutting forces.

  • Ground cutting edge with a special edge preparation to produce high surface finish
  • A special chipformer designed for machining high-temperature alloys
  • Provides a high 90° shoulder accuracy

Machining Recommendations for SOMT 040204 PNTR Inserts
* ISCAR material group in accordance with VDI 3323 standard
** Quenched and tempered
For machining in unstable conditions, the recommended cutting data should be reduced by 20-30%

SOMT 040206 PNR-FF Insert
Square insert with 4 cutting edges for fast feed milling.

Features
  • Ramping down capabilities
  • When the insert is mounted in a cutter, it provides a side clearance that enables deep pocket milling, as it eliminates rubbing and damaging the side wall
  • Small insert size enables high tooth density
  • Durable insert design to withstand high chip load, .020” maximum feed per tooth
  • .020” maximum depth of cut


Note for technologists and CNC programmers: The tool corner radius used for CNC programming should be considered as .043”.

When mounting this insert in a HELI4MILL tool for fast feed milling, the tool pockets should be modified by a corner rounding of 2 mm radius.

HELI4MILL inserts are produced from ISCAR’s latest SUMOTEC carbide grades to ensure high productivity.

For shallow milling applications, a high table feed can be applied by the HELI4MILL tools, increasing productivity and reducing production costs.
